Hockey’s plan to broaden services trade with AsiaThe Opposition’s renewed emphasis on building services trade with Asia, as outlined by Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey at the National Press Club on 16 May 2012, is a welcome development in Australian trade and industry policy.
“Mr Hockey is right in identifying health and financial services exports as having the potential to join tourism and education as major Australian exports”, said the President of the Australian Services Roundtable, James Bond.

The much talked about growth of domestic demand and services in Asian economies is finally occurring and has an unstoppable momentum.
In every area of services – from logistics, education, tourism, information and communications services to property development and finance – new global leaders will emerge from those companies that are successful in the highly competitive and contested Asian growth markets.
China already has more top-10 banks, initial public offerings, mobile phone subscribers, university graduates, cars and fast trains than anywhere else.
